All these songs were written by California songwriters (Alvin co-wrote one of the songs). He covers Merle Haggard, Jackson Browne, John Fogerty, Jerry Garcia, Tom Waits, The Beach Boys and others. Appearing live at Amoeba on 6/22 and Safari Sam’s on 6/24.

Boards of Canada Trans Canada Highway EP (Warp) – This mellow electronic band is usually critic proof, but Pitchfork only gave this EP a 6.0/10. They complain that there’s really only 14 minutes of new material on the EP (the rest is recycled album tracks and a remix).

The Legendary Pink Dots Your Children Placate You From Premature Graves (Roir) – This album commemorates the cult band’s 25th Aniversary. Appearing live at the El Rey on 7/7.
Jamie Lidell Multiply Additions (Warp) – The blue eyed soul record gets the remix treatment by Four Tet and others.
Loscil Plume (Kranky) – Ambient electronic music.
Peeping Tom Peeping Tom (Ipecac) – Mike Patton (Faith No More) with a lot of guests including: Kool Keith, Dub Trio, Dan the Automator, Bebel Gilberto, Kid Koala, Massive Attack, Norah Jones. This record is six years in the making, more accessible than his recent projects and has a hip-hop/electronic vibe to it.
Radio Dept. Pet Grief (Labrador) – Yet another band that gets compared to My Bloody Valentine. These guys are from Sweden. Download “The Worst Taste in Music”
