Friday Night Music Options 3/2/07

TiVo Alert: Silversun Pickups on Last Call with Carson Daly – This their last night on the Carson Daly show. I hadn’t seen Daly in a while. Is it just me, or his head about half the size it used to be? And I mean that literally, not figuratively. You can watch all the performances on Live Daily HERE.
Tonight's Pick:
Ghostland Observatory / Matmos / Marshall Allen (of the Sun Ra Arkestra) @ Natural History Museum – Matmos is the kind of band you expect to see playing at a museum, Austin’s Ghostland Observatory is not. Ghostland Observatory has a great reputation as a live act. They’re heavily influenced by Daft Punk and frequently get compared to LCD Soundsystem (electro rock ‘n’ roll with soul). Download Matmos “Roses and Teeth for Ludwig Wittgenstein
Other possibilities:
Snow Patrol / Silversun Pickups / OK Go @ Gibson (Sold Out) – This is the fourth night of a 30 date tour. In addition, Silversun Pickups will be playing about nine headline dates between now and Coachella.
Clinic / Sea Wolf @ Troubadour (Sold Out) – See my post for Noise Pop performance.
The Hangmen / The Superbees @ Safari Sam’s ($12) – The Superbees are local garage rockers who don’t play many shows anymore. The LA Weekly claims it’s been five years (I guess they weren’t at the Safari Sam’s show last September).
Alexi Murdoch / Midnight Movies @ El Rey ($14) – Murdoch’s a mellow, Scottish singer-songwriter. I just got the full length Midnight Movies record last night. I’ll write more about it later. Look for it in stores on 4/24/07. They’re a local, female fronted dream pop band. Look for them on the road with Blonde Redhead soon. Download “Patient Eye
Gwendolyn @ the Mint ($10)
Bodies of Water / The Spires / The Listing Ship / Heroes and Heroines @ the Echo (Free) - Solid local indie lineup and it's free if you're over 21.
Hot for Chocolate / Thee L.A. Gentlemen Callers @ the Scene – Rock ‘n’ Roll
