Be sure to check out the current Spin Magazine. There's a feature on Silver Lake and it talks about a lot of the stuff I talk about on this blog. It's got two pictures of Sea Level Records in Echo Park (including a really old Silversun Pickups in-store) and some quotes from owner Todd Clifford. They also talk to Mitchell Frank (owner of Spaceland Productions, the Echo, Malo and Irving's manager) about how he started booking shows at the club commonly referred to as Spaceland. They talk to Aaron Espinosa (and have a picture of him) from Earlimart about his studio and he predicts that one of the local bands could get huge. There's also small pictures of a bunch of local bands including including The 88, Silversun Pickups, Cold War Kids, Lavender Diamond, and a bunch of others that I'm forgetting right now.
There's also a smaller piece predicting that the Cahuenga corridor will be the next Silver Lake. They talk to Kid Benihana who says that while he respects Silver Lake the way you respect an older brother, he'd rather party with the little sister [and Good Charlotte, She Wants Revenge and C-list celebs?].
Since a lot of people are talking about Cold War Kids right now, here are a couple of songs for you to check out. I saw them recently at Spaceland and they're playing with buzz band tapes'n tapes at the Knitting Factory on 3/21/06. They seem to breaking locally....
