Highlights from the Weekend Concert Calendar 8/3/07 - 8/5/07

Some neat stuff going on this weekend. Several of which you'll only get because you live in Los Angeles.

Friday 8/3/07
Manifest Destiny Concert: Earthless / RTX / Entrance / Titan / Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound / Astra @ Safari Sam’s ($12 adv / $15 dos) – Tee Pee Records is putting this mini-festival on. If you’re a bigger fan of stoner rock, then you probably already bought your tickets for this extravaganza.
Big Business @ Spaceland ($8) – One of the best local heavy rock bands. These guys also play with the Melvins now.
VHS or Beta / Gran Ronde @ Troubadour ($15) – We gave away a pair of tickets earlier this week. The dance-rock guys have a new album, Bring Out the Comets, coming out August 28th. Head over to their Myspace page to hear a couple of the really catchy tracks.
The Slits / Icarus Line / warpaint @ El Rey ($20) – The Slits were an early punk band. Warpaint is actress Shannon Sossamon’s band.
Gravy Train / Mika Miko @ the Echo ($12) – Silly dance-rock.
Repeater @ the Scene

Saturday 8/4/07
Benefit for Ferdie: Qui / The Bronx / The Locust / Special Guest / Special Guest @ Echoplex ($15 adv / $17 dos) – This is a great lineup and a way to help out a local musician. Ferdie, the bad ass drummer from the 400 Blows, got chicken pox and racked up some horrendous hospital bills. I’ve talked to lots of people who are outraged that the show starts at 5:30 PM so that Franki Chan’s dance club can invade the space. The Echo’s website says the Franki Chan dance party starts at 9 while the bands have sent out announcements saying the bands end at 11.
Radars to the Sky / Bedroom Walls / Rademacher / Death to Anders @ Spaceland ($10) – A good chance to support and catch up with a quality lineup of local indie bands (and one from Fresno). Download Bedroom Walls’ “In Anticipation of Your Suicide” and “Somewhere in Newhall” Download Rademacher’s “You’re Never Gonna Hear From Me” and “Playing for Fun
Subtle @ Troubadour ($15) – For the Anticon crowd. I like Subtle.
St. Vincent / Josh Haden @ the Echo ($10) – Blogger favorite and occasional Sufjan Stevens and Polyphonic Spree collaborator.
Indian Jewelry / Nymph / Pterodactyl @ the Scene ($8)
Tonalism: Dntel / Languis / Mia Doi Todd @ Farmlab (Free) [1745 N. Spring Street] – 6:00PM – 6:00AM – An all night ambient music happening.
Andre Williams and the Flash Express @ Crash Mansion ($25) [1024 S. Grand] – Doors open at 4:00PM
Billy Bob Thornton @ El Rey ($25)
She’s Your Sister @ Viper Room ($12)
Tift Merritt @ McCabe’s (Sold Out)
Si-Se @ the Roxy ($21)

Sunday 8/5/07
Part Time Punks: 1990s @ the Echo ($10) – Scottish buzzed about band.
Hanson @ Spaceland ($25) – Their two shows coming up at the Viper Room sold out super fast. This one was just announced, so you can still get tickets.
Underwater City People / Leviathan Brothers / Henry Clay People @ All-Star Lanes in Eagle Rock

I know it's so awesomely cheap! I've been saving up my allowance and was thinking i'd have to spend at least $75 to see them! I agree, those guys are worth WAY more than $25!
