[Pick of the Night] The Pains of Being Pure at Heart / Girls / Champagne Socialists @ the Echo ($14) – The Pains of Being Pure at Heart record is one of my favorite records of the year. If you’re into that post-C86, early Jesus & Mary Chain I think you’ll dig it. They put on a better live show than you’d expect too. I haven’t heard much from Girls, but I know Scott from Surfing on Steam is a big fan.
[Recommended] Andy Clockwise / Pterodactyl / Little Red Radio / The ’87 Stick Up Kids @ Spaceland (Free) – The Andy Clockwise residency is pulling in big crowds each week. I’m curious about Brooklyn’s Pterodactyl (who record for the Jagjaguwar-affiliated Brah Records).
MP3: Pterodactyl – First Daze
Japanese Motors / The Growlers / Sweaters / Grand Elegance @ The Echoplex (Free) – Costa Mesa’s Japanese Motors are signed to Vice Records.

Micachu & the Shapes / tUnE-YaRdS @ the Echo ($12) – Micachu’s got a new record out on Rough Trade. It’s manic, pretty far out there indie rock. Good stuff if you’re into that sort of thing.
Matt Vasquez (of Delta Spirit) / The Parson Red Heads (acoustic) / The Romany Rye @ Spaceland ($12)
Zodiac Death Valley / Black Apples / Les Blanks / The New Room @ Bordello ($8) – I’m a big Les Blanks fan, but not familiar with the other bands….

[Pick of the Night] Phillip Glass Ensemble performs to Koyaanisqatsi @ Hollywood Bowl ($1 - $96) – A new arrangement of the very dramatic score.
[Recommended] The Shore / Bolero / Old Californio @ Bordello ($8) – Good lineup. Bolero is Josh Schwartz’s (Further, Beachwood Sparks) band who don’t play around enough.
Pit er Pat / Matteah Baim @ Space 1520 – Experimental, post-rock sounds from Thrill Jockey.
Robert Francis / Rumspringa / Haim @ The Roxy ($10) – Robert Francis recently signed with Atlantic Records.
