Pavement Headline the Hollywood Bowl on Thursday

A cold kicked my ass all week, but I finally made it out on Saturday to Waved Out 2. Dungen put on a trippy show. Not the most exciting set I've seen them play, but they sounded good. This week's pretty ridiculous, look at all the shows on Thursday...

[Recommended] Bettye LaVette and Brian O’Rourke @ Largo ($35) – Legendary Northern Soul singer has teamed up with the Drive-By Truckers in recent years. Her most recent record is a collection of classic British covers (Stones, Beatles, Who, etc.).  
[Recommended] Eastern Conference Champions / Helen Stellar / Therapy Session / Moving Picture Show @ Spaceland (Free) – ECC is doing the Monday night residency in September.

[Recommended] The Drums / Surfer Blood / The Young Friends @ The Glass House ($15) – I really like Surfer Blood. Also at the Music Box on Wednesday. I wasn’t so impressed with The Drums when I saw them.

[Recommended] Yoko Ono: We Are Plastic Ono Band w/ Cornelius, Perry Farrell, Iggy Pop, Carrie Fisher, Vincent Gallo, RZA, Nels Cline, Mike Watt and more @ Orpheum Theatre ($60 - $150) – Could be pretty cool. Interesting folks joining her.
[Recommended] The Sword / Karma to Burn / Mount Carmel @ El Rey ($20) – The Sword puts on a good metal show.
School of Seven Bells / Active Child / Healamonster & Tarsier @ Echoplex ($17) – Not crazy about the new album, but I hear it’s a grower.
