[Pick of the Night] Future of the Left / Japandroids / Dead Ponies @ Spaceland ($12) – Future of the Left are a noisy Welsh band with a surprisingly good new record on 4AD. Japandroids are one of the buzziest bands going right now. Their album’s currently got an 84 rating on Metacritic and it just got picked up for re-release by Polyvinyl. Get there early for Dead Ponies – they’re a good local band that I haven’t checked in with for a while.

I'm so sad to have missed Malk on Saturday? What was off? Was it just that he was playing the worst venue in town, or was the music itself disappointing?

well...it was hard to get a good vantage point. then he played lots of new songs and obscurities. noodley guitar solos on almost every song. surprisingly little interaction with the crowd (he did insult rollins, mackaye and albini). you had to be an uber-fan to appreciate it, and i'm just not anymore....
