Michel Polnareff: Ne Dans Un Ice-Cream

Check out my guest post over at the Aquarium Drunkard today. I delve into Michel Polnareff's very divisive 1971 album, Polnareff's. Above is a clip of him performing it "live" (or at least sitting at a piano while it plays). Please feel free to comment on his blog. I'm curious what people think...

Aquarium Drunkard Presents: L'Aventure

Just a quick heads up to click over to Aquarium Drunkard for his tribute to Television's Adventure. The sampler (a follow up to his RAM on LA compilation) features eight local LA artists tackling tracks from the revered New York City band's second album. The highlight comes six songs in with Imaad Wasif's (w/Lykke Li) take on "The Fire." For me, Television has always been about the guitar work of Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd and Wasif's inspired playing respectfully honors them. Local Natives and Deadly Syndrome come in right behind Wasif...

AD's asking that if you dig it, and can afford to part with some scratch, to donate to the Silverlake Conservatory of Music.

Farmer Dave Scher: Flash Forward to the Good Times

Farmer Dave Scher's debut solo record, Flash Forward to the Good Times, comes out next Tuesday via Kemado Records. Now if only he'd bring his Hot Nuts back to LA (he actually packaged and sold hot nuts for a while).

To celebrate the album's release I did a guest post for the Aquarium Drunkard. The post expands on some stuff I've written here about the Beachwood Sparks' formation and also includes brief career synopsis and some words about their continuing legacy on the LA music scene. Read it HERE.

Sinking Radio: Radar Bros. "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey"

This is my weekly reminder to point your internet browser to Little Radio each Friday from Noon to 2:00 PM for the Sinking Radio show.

Each week, the hosts play an official You Set the Scene pick. My pick for tomorrow's show is the Radar Bros.' cover of Paul McCartney's "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey." The track comes a cool new release from Aquarium Drunkard/Autumn Tone Records. The record features 11 Los Angeles artists paying homage to my favorite McCartney solo record, RAM.

Also featured on the compilation are You Set the Scene favorites: Le Switch, The Broken West, Amnion, Frankel, Parson Red Heads and Earlimart. Lots of fun stuff on the compilation, but my favorite has to be the Radar Bros. Jim Putnam totally nailed it. The cover maintains the spirit of the original, but showcases the Radar Bros. talent as well.

The compilation's totally free (they recommend donating to No More Landmines) and will be available starting Monday from the Aquarium Drunkard. If you don't own the original record, pick that up too.

Tune in to Sinking Radio tomorrow to check it out.
