Live Music Options: 5/18/09 - 5/24/09

I caught four bands last week: Amnion (great), thenewno2 (better than expected), Black Joe Lewis (fantastic) and Lucero (good). More on those shows later...

Monday 5/18/09
[Pick of the Night] Gangi / The Life and Times / LANDy @ Spaceland (Free) – Gangi’s residency continues. The lead singer of The Life and Times fronted Shiner; one of my favorite Kansas City bands back in mid-1990s. LAndy is fronted by Adam Goldberg, who starred in Dazed and Confused, one of my favorite films of the early 1990s.
[Recommended] Golden Animals / Amusement Parks on Fire / Xu Xu Fang / Kera & the Lesbians @ Silverlake Lounge (Free) – Golden Animals has the Silverlake Lounge residency. A lot of people will be heading over to see Amusement Parks on Fire.
[Recommended] Juliette Commagere / Robert Francis / Ceci Bastida / Rademacher @ The Echo (Free) – Juliette Commagere’s residency continues.
Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s / Telekenisis / Everything Now @ Troubadour ($14) – I’d be curious to see Telekenisis. Hopefully they play Silver Lake or Echo Park soon.

[Recommended] The Minor Canon / Blank Blue @ the Prospector in Long Beach – The Minor Canon’s still one of my favorite local bands. Blank Blue is good too.
The Decemberists @ Hollywood Palladium ($35) – It’s always odd when indie bands start to go mainstream, and you hear about people who are really into music “discovering” a band that’s already been around for seven years. Maybe it’s an LA phenomenon?
