Live Music Options: 6/27/11 - 7/3/11

The Rosebuds Play the Satellite on Friday (along with Other Lives)

The highlight of last week for me, was finally seeing Dr. John. Great band (Shannon Powell on drums) and a good setlist. He played new stuff, but threw in some of the greatest hits too. For a guy over 70, he's still amazingly cool.

[Recommended] Sweethead / Alain Johannes / Mini Mansions @ Spaceland (Free) –Lots of rumors about special guests. The LA Times said Eagles of Death Metal was playing, but then their management said they weren’t? So who knows lots of the EODM and TQOTSA family will be in the house. Sweethead features Van Leeuwen (guitar in Queens of the Stone Age), Serrina Sims, Norm Block (drums in Mark Lanegan Band, Plexi) and Eddie Nappi (bass in Mark Lanegan Band, Handsome). This is the last night of their residency.

I only made it out once last week for the Passion of the Weiss show at Spaceland on Saturday night. I caught DaVinci, Pollyn and Freddie Gibbs. Gibbs is the real deal. If you're a fan of seeing rappers at all, give him a look. The beginning of this week is a little slow, but it picks up starting Thursday....
