Live Music Options: 12/1/08 - 12/7/08


Pretty good week for shows. If y0u want a good sampling of the breadth of local bands, start off with the Movies tonight, then see No Age tomorrow, Afternoons on Wednesday, Crystal Antlers/The Bronx on Friday, The Sweet Hurt/Monolators on Saturday and Little Joy on Sunday. None of those bands sound anything alike.
Monday 12/1/08
[Recommended] The Movies / Eagle and Talon / Wrong Way Driver / The Lemurs @ Spaceland (Free) – The Movies are one of my favorite LA bands. They’re doing the Monday night residency this month at Spaceland.

[Recommended] Low End Theory: School of Seven Bells / Gangi / Orko Eloheim @ Airliner ($10) – If you missed School of Seven Bells opening for M83, here’s another chance. I like their record.
[Recommended] Jonathan Richman @ El Rey ($16) – You can’t really go wrong with Jonathan Richman.

The Submarines / Patrick Park @ Echoplex ($12) – Local band, The Submarines music is featured in that new iPhone commercial.

[Recommended] Pontiak / Biblical Proof of UFOs @ Relax Bar - I haven’t been to Relax Bar, but I got the Pontiak stuff that Thrill Jockey put out and it was quite good.
Friendly Fires @ Spaceland ($14) – These guys got some good buzz earlier this year.
