New Music Releases 11/25/08

I'm way behind on these things - still trying to get my best of lists together, but trying to get up to date on these weekly updates first.

Records Released on 11/25/08:

Records I’ve Heard:

Surf City: Surf City EP (Morr Music) – A relatively new noise-pop band out of New Zealand. They were originally named after a Jesus & Mary Chain song (“Kill Surf City”) and hired Pavement’s artist, Steve Keene, to do their cover artwork. Both great reference points for their music as are late 1970s/early 1980s New Zealand bands like the Clean and the Chills. It’s a promising debut.
MP3: Headin’ Inside

Other Noteworthy Releases:
Coldplay – Import EP
Rivers Cuomo – home recordings
Fennesz – good buzz on this one
Fireman – Paul McCartney and Youth – apparently this one is more rockin’ than their previous records
Hall & Oates – live at the Troubadour
The Killers – at Gibson Amphitheatre on 12/14/08
Ludacris
Moby –remix album; at Giant Maximus (downtown) on 12/31/08
Peanut Butter Wolf Presents: Badd Santa – Stones Throw comp
Raveonettes – digital only Christmas EP; at the Fonda on 1/24/09
R.E.M. – Murmur remastered and expanded with a live disc from 1983; I’d go see one of those play the album shows if R.E.M. did Murmur
Supersuckers – at the House of Blues on 12/27/08
Ween – live album
Scott Weiland – frontman for Stone Temple Pilots; at Gibson Amphitheatre on 12/14/08 and the Fonda on 2/7/09
Kanye West – I haven’t bothered to listen to it, but it’s a love it or hate it thing; at the Gibson Amphitheatre on 12/11/08
John Zorn – film works
