TiVo Alert: Silversun Pickups on Last Call with Carson Daly
Tonight's Pick:
Oh No! Oh My! / Georgie James / Love of Diagrams @ Safari Sam’s ($5) – Austin indie poppers, Oh No! Oh My! just played the Echo on Saturday and they’re putting out an EP on Dim Mak later this year. Georgie James is Laura and John from Q and Not U. Anybody see Love of Diagrams at Spaceland last night? I stayed home and watched Don’t Look Back instead.
Also recommended:
Let’s Independent: Foreign Born / Molecules / The Hectors @ Boardner’s ($8) – This is the monthly show that local blog, Radio Free Silver Lake puts on at Boardner’s. Foreign Born just played some shows with Grizzly Bear, who are big fans of the band.
Nels Cline / Glenn Kotche @ the Echo ($12) – I’m hearing the new Wilco album is incredible (hopefully my intel is good). Here’s a chance to see two of the newer, more avant members solo.
In Waves / Mezzanine Owls @ El Cid ($8) - I haven't heard In Waves yet, but Scott at Little Radio's a big fan.
I know less about these:
Danny Cohen @ Theatre of Note - Download “Motel Sex”
Comes with the Fall / Valient Thorr / Year Long Disaster / HDR @ Spaceland ($8) – Heavy music that gets compared to Led Zeppelin and Alice in Chains.
Mika Miko / No Age @ Cinespace ($5) - Kill Rock Stars band
Luke Paquin @ Tangier ($8) - Hot Hot Heat guitarist

Love of Diagrams were pretty average. Can't believe they're on Matador.
I agree that they were a bit underwhelming. And I actually thought they were significantly better than their very below-average EP. The rhythm section isn't half-bad, and the guitarist is actually quite good, but the songs just aren't there. It is a bit of a surprise that they're on that label. Maybe the full-length managed to capture something the EP and last night's show didn't.
