Wednesday Night Music Options - 5/2/07

The Switch Play the Scene Tonight (for free!)

Tivo Alert: BRMC on Kimmel
Radio Alert: The Broken West on NPR’s “World Café” and Ross will be on the Aquarium Drunkard’s show on Little Radio from 2-4 PM.

Tonight’s Pick:
The Switch / The Youngs / Muso @ the Scene (Free) – The Switch are a really good local band that has recently been getting a lot of nice press. The Aquarium Drunkard recently had them on his show (you can download acoustic songs from the set). Joe at Radio Free Silver Lake recently named them his band of the week. I’ve called them “saloon-y” and compared them to Harry Nilsson and Paul Williams and solo McCartney. That’s a starting point anyway. The Youngs are a married couple who recently relocated from Seattle. They’re arty and slightly eccentric.

Also Appearing:
Elvis Costello @ House of Blues (Sold Out) – One thing I failed to mention in my new releases yesterday – almost all of Elvis Costello’s early albums were reissued yesterday. I didn’t find it particularly noteworthy since there weren’t any new tracks. If you’re not as familiar with his material, I recommend buying a turntable and searching the $1 bins around town. You’ll eventually get them all and realize how versatile and talented the guy really is.
Low End Theory Club: Daedelus @ Airliner ($5) – For the underground hip-hop fans.
The Good Listeners / Gus Black @ Largo – For the KCRW crowd.
Teddybears @ El Rey ($15) – Swedish band for the indie dance crowd.
Patti Smith @ the Roxy (Sold Out) – I panned her new covers album last week.
Club NME: What Make Milwaukee Famous @ Spaceland ($5) – Beer. They’re an indie-pop band from Austin on the Barsuk label. Download “I Decide” and “Sweet Lady
