The LA Record does a great job with their covers
If you're not going to SXSW, a few of the hyped bands are appearing in LA in the early part of the week. Some veteran bands who probably don't care about SXSW as much are appearing in the latter part of the week.

[Recommended] Slim Cessna’s Auto Club / Le Switch / 5 O’Clock Somewhere @ Safari Sam’s ($10) – I love Le Switch and think 5 O’Clock Somewhere are a lot of fun.
[Recommended] Crystal Antlers / We Barbarians @ Viper Room (Free with RSVP to Viper Room on Myspace) – Jax is loving the Crystal Antlers and I like what I’ve heard.
Ed Harcourt / The Chapin Sisters / Everest @ Echoplex ($12) – I’m a huge Everest fan.
Voxhaul Broadcast / Aushua @ Spaceland (Free) – Aushua’s worth checking out for anthemic rock along the lines of early U2 or Foreign Born. An Australian music showcase precedes the show starting at 7:00 PM and featuring: Yves Klein Blue, Whitley, Old Man River, Ash Grunwald and Dan Kelly.
[Hype Alert] Cut Copy / Walter Meego @ the Echo ($10 / advance tix sold out, so you might want to show up early) – Cut / Copy’s an Australian indie dance band with a ton of buzz going into SXSW. They’re also on the Coachella bill.
Dandi Wind / Pop Noir @ Knitting Factory ($10)
Warpaint / The Black Swans / Calls After Midnight @ Bordello ($5) – Warpaint continues their residency. The Black Swans have gotten a lot of good reviews (including Pitchfork).
Twilight Sleep / Static of the Gods @ Sivlerlake Lounge (Free) – Twilight Sleep are following up their record release show at the Echo last Thursday.

[Hype Alert] Atlas Sound / Valet / White Rainbow @ the Echo ($10) – I’ve got some tickets to give away for this one, so email me. Atlas Sound is Bradford Cox of Deerhunter.
Magic Christian / John Wicks & the Records / Sky Parade @ Safari Sam’s – Magic Christian features Cyril Jordan from the Flamin’ Groovies. The Records wrote “Starry Eyes” which is an amazing song that makes seeing him worthwhile.
[Hype Alert] The Ting Tings @ Rec Center Studios ($10) – Nic Harcourt of KCRW loves these guys and helped break them in the US. They’re playing a lot of high profile shows at SXSW.

[Hype Alert] The Wombats / Aanchors Aaweigh / Coco B’s @ Spaceland ($12) – The Wombats have gotten a ton of buzz in the UK.
