Weekend Music Options

Languis plays Spaceland on Sunday (and it's Free!)
Friday 3/24/06
Asobi Seksu @ Spaceland [$8] - For the shoegazer/4AD fans. Asobi Seksu is a New York city band with a bilingual female Japanese singer. They play Lush-like music.
Download "I'm Happy But You Don't Like Me"
Download "Sooner"

The Bats @ El Cid [$8] - For the record collector crowd. The Bats are a classic New Zealand/Flying Nun jangle pop band that started back in the 1980s.

Beth Orton @ Avalon [SOLD OUT] - For the KCRW crowd. Critically acclaimed British singer-songwriter.

Gogol Bordello @ Key Club [$15] - For the eccentrics. Crazy eclectic gypsy punk on the Sunset Strip.
Download "Gypsy Part of Town"

Flaming Lips Listening Party / Jimmy Tamborello DJ set @ Museum of Contemporary Art [FREE] 7:00PM - 11:00PM

Saturday 3/25/06
Little Brazil @ Sea Level Records 4:00 PM [FREE] - Indie pop band from Omaha with ties to Desaparecidos and the Good Life. Also playing Friday in the Alterknit Lounge at the Knitting Factory.
Download "You and Me"

Death Cab For Cutie / Ben Harper / Gomez / Sia / Feist @ Gibson Amphitheatre [$300] - I just searched and some $300 tickets popped up. That's a little steep for a bunch of bands I don't care about seeing. I think Franz Ferdinand is one of the special guests.

Soledad Brothers @ Spaceland [$12] - Detroit blues-influenced rock.
Download "Downtown Paranoia Blues"

Sunday 3/26/06
Languis @ Spaceland [FREE] - This is the only show this weekend I'm excited about. Since they became a four-piece I think they're one of the best local bands. If you like bands like My Bloody Valentine, Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized go see them (it's free). They're also appearing at Sea Level Records at 4:00PM.
Download "In the Fields of (Lonely Fences)"
Mike Stinson @ the Echo 8:00PM [FREE] - My favorite local Gram Parsons-inspired country singer. Robert Hilburn (former critic for the LA Times) and Chris Morris (Billboard/Hollywood Reporter) agree.
