It's another good week for live music in LA. The Henry Clay People on Monday, Everest on Tuesday, the Minor Canon on Wednesday, a good benefit on Thursday and Built to Spill, Pinback and all of the Liars are in town. I made it out a few times last week. The sound was so bad at a couple of them that I can't bring myself to write about the bands. I couldn't tell if they could sing or play...

Monday 2/18/08
[Recommended] The Henry Clay People / The Happy Hollows / Kissing Tigers / Death to Anders @ the Echo (Free) - Tonight's being billed the Dave Newton night. Newton has recently produced all bands. The Henry Clay People are a favorite of mine.
[Recommended] The Pity Party / Film School / What Made Milwaukee Famous / Ladies and Gents @ Spaceland (Free) - Solid lineup for the Pity Party residency.
[Recommended] Dengue Fever / Colorforms / The Tourbillon Orchestra @ Viper Room ($10 / free with RSVP to Viper Room) - A free chance to see Dengue Fever on the westside.
[Recommended] Robert Francis /Dawes / Brother Will & Friends (of Brothers & Sisters) @ Silverlake Lounge (Free) - This is the last night of Robert Francis' residency because he's going out on the road with Missy Higgins.

[Recommended] Benefit for Matt Cronk & Manny Nieto’s Studio: Darker My Love / Icarus Line / Tweak Bird / Crystal Antlers @ the Echo ($10) - Matt Cronk is the guitarist in Qui who recently suffered a stroke. Like a lot of musicians he could use a lot of help with his medical bills. Manny's been on the Silver Lake scene since back when you were still living in San Francisco (or Brooklyn).
