Rest in Peace: George Carlin

While listening to NPR this morning I heard the news that George Carlin passed away. Carlin was my favorite comedian of all time. I managed to catch his live act a few times over the years. While I was in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, I considered seeing his show again, but you always assume you'll get another chance. The guy was incredibly intelligent, able to make both political tirades and observational humor equally hilarious.
I'll always remember being on road trips with my family listening to his comedy tapes on my cassette Walkman over and over again. His more recent HBO specials (since 9/11) were so misanthropic, they made even me uncomfortable. But the body of work was unparalleled. He will be missed.

My older brother and I would get his records out of the library and listen to them. I certainly didn't know what "Toledo Window Box" was a reference to, but we memorized his bits and would repeat them over and over when our parents weren't around.
