New Music Releases: 12/9/08

Records Released on 12/9/08:

Records I’ve Heard:
B. Fleischmann: Angst Is Not a Weltanschauung! (Morr Music) – It’s a totally laid back IDM meets singer-songwriter record. It didn’t make a great impression on me the first time I listened to it, but I’ll give it another spin. There is a weird collaboration/remix of Daniel Johnston’s a cappella “King Kong” where Fleischmann adds a haunting score to the track.
MP3: 24:12

Pavement: Brighten the Corners – Nicene Creedence Edition (Matador) – I already wrote an exquisite piece (read: rushed) about this reissue. It’s too late to get the bonus vinyl LP now, but you really ougtha pick this thing up. Now if they’d only reunite for Coachella I might be able to justify going.
MP3: Rattled By the Rush

Local Releases:
The Movies: Based On a True Story (Self-Released) – I’m in the middle of writing my top 10 lists for 2008, so you’ll see more about this album very soon. In the meantime, it’s safe to say that I very much recommend it. Their most consistent, best record yet. See them every Monday in December at Spaceland.

Other Noteworthy Releases:
Cat Power – covers EP
Common
The Damned
Headlights – remixes
Joker’s Daughter – single
Mark Kozelek – covers LP
Charlie Louvin
Motown – the Complete #1’s limited edition 10 CD box set
DM Stith – EP; MP3: Around the Lion Legs
Welcome Wagon – produced and arranged by Sufjan Stevens, MP3: Sold! to the Nice Rich Man
