Highlights of Tuesday's Concert Calendar 8/7/07

A lot of good options tonight....

Tuesday 8/7/07
Blair / Le Switch (acoustic) / Travel By Sea @ Silverlake Lounge ($8) - I'm not the world's biggest blog reader, but one that I check in on every day is the Aquarium Drunkard. In addition to being a really nice guy, he's got great taste in music and he hunts down tons of bootlegs I don't have. Did you know that he's also got a record label called Autumn Tone and radio shows on Little Radio and Sirius? One of the first signings to his label is Travel By Sea. They're a rootsy-folk duo for fans of Jason Molina and Centro-Matic. AD's also a huge supporter of one of my favorite local bands, Le Switch. The more I hear and see Le Switch, the more I like them. Aaron Kyle's a passionate singer who writes great songs with an undercurrent of melancholy. Tonight they'll be doing it the acoustic way. AD recently hosted Blair on his Little Radio show. She's a talented singer-songwriter from New Orleans. I got her CD in the mail a while back and never got a chance to write about her. As many have already pointed out, she's got a little bit of (early) Liz Phair in her voice, which should be taken as a compliment. Dodge wrote some nice things about her too. MyAD's got MP3s from all three bands HERE.

Fionn Regan / Ferraby Lionheart @ Hotel Café ($10) - Fionn Regan is nominated for the Mercury Prize for album of the of year in the UK. He's up against Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons, Winehouse, Dizzee Rascal and others. I got his record in the mail last week and I've been regularly enjoying it on the way to work. Fans of male singer-songwriters should like it. It falls somewhere in the realm of Ryan Adam's Heartbreaker mixed with Patrick Park with a touch of Damien Rice. Ferraby Lionheart's a local singer-songwriter on Nettwerk Records. I like his EP, but haven't heard his debut full length yet (out September 4th). He's more in line with the eccentric (in a good way) singer-songwriters.
The Prix / Astra Heights / IO Perry @ Spaceland ($8) - I keep forgetting to mention that the International Pop Overthow fest is going on right now. This is the best lineup they've had so far. See the full schedule HERE.
The Finches / Gwendolyn / Jeff Hanson @ Bordello ($8)
Jeff Hanson @ Knitting Factory - Get there early because he's playing the Bordello downtown later.
The Wombats / Kenna @ Cinespace
Robbers on High Street / 1990s / Mezzanine Owls @ Troubadour ($12)
Miranda Lee Richards / The Good Listeners @ Largo
The Mormons / 8-Bit / The Monolators @ Mr. T's Bowl
Hanson @ Viper Room (Sold Out)
Divisadero / Henry Clay People / Hello Menno @ Safari Sam's (Free / $5 for under 21)
The Ronelles @ Molly Malone's - The Ronelles will be Sylvia's guest on Sinking with Sylvia on Little Radio on Thursday at 11:00AM.
