Friday Night Music Options 10/5/07

Wiskey Biscuit Play Spaceland on Friday

Friday 10/5/07:

TiVo Alert: Iron & Wine on Letterman; Animal Collective on Conan

Movie Alert: A Place to Be: A Celebration of Nick Drake @ American Cinematheque – Nick’s sister and Producer Joe Boyd will be there. I’ve seen A Skin Too Few and it’s definitely worth seeing if you’re a Drake fan.

In-Store Alert: Jesu @ Amoeba (Free) at 6:00PM

Comedy Show Alert: George Carlin @ Gibson
Friday's Top Picks:

Wiskey Biscuit / Bolero / War Children @ Spaceland ($8 or $5 on the discounted list) – Wiskey Biscuit are a great party band (especially when they’re plugged in). They’ve been fixtures on the east side music scene for over a decade. Lead singer Jason Mason spends more time DJ’ing these days (Short Stop, Dub Club, etc.) but the Wiskey Biscuit shows are usually a rambling good time. Bolero is Josh Schwartz’s new band. He’s a great guitarist and they’ve got a great retro sound.

400 Blows / The Mae Shi @ Safari Sam’s (Free / $5 under 21) –For fans of the heavy music. Ferdie retired, so this is the first show with 400 Blows new drummer.

Bill Callahan / Sir Richard Bishop @ Echoplex ($17) – For the rock you to sleep crowd. Bill Callahan was the lead singer of Smog.

Morrissey / Kristeen Young @ Palladium ($50) – For the Morrissey fans.

Jon Brion @ Largo (Reservations Booked Up) – For the JB fans.

Ulrich Schnauss @ Troubadour (Sold Out) – For the shoegaze electronic fans.

Metric @ the Fonda (Sold Out) – For the electro-pop fans.

The Monolators / Phoenix and the Turtle / One Trick Pony @ Mr. T’s Bowl – For the indie fans.
Stevenson Ranch Davidians @ the Scene – For the retro minded fans.

Silver Daggers / Pocahaunted @ the Smell ($5) – For the noise rock fans.

Jimmie Dale Gilmore @ Getty Center – For the country-folk fans.

The Screening @ the Echo ($5)
