New Music Releases 7/18/06

I haven't heard any of this stuff although I'm curious about the Golden Smog and the Minders.

Cassavetes: Funny Story (Headphone Treats) – Download “My Heart Your Beat

Feist: Open Season (Interscope) – What’s the deal with all the remix albums?

French Kicks: Two Thousand (Star Time) - Appearing at the Troubadour on 8/21. Download "Also Ran"

Golden Smog: Another Fine Day (Lost Highway) – Gary Louris and Jeff Tweedy’s supergroup. They do a version of the Kinks’ “Strangers.”

Heather Duby: Heather Duby (Sonic Boom) - She just played Spaceland. I caught a song.

Helmet: Monochrome (Warcon) - I loved a couple of songs off of Meantime back in college. Haven't been too impressed since then.

Lisa Germano: In The Maybe World (Young God) - Appearing at Largo on 7/27.

Los Lonely Boys: Sacred (Sony) – Willie Nelson loves them. I saw them at the Austin City Limits fest one time and I had to leave – very quickly. Appearing at the Greek on 8/18.

The Minders: Bright Guilty World (Future Farmer) - Anglophile Elephant 6 band. Appearing at the Derby on 7/24.

MSTRKRFT: The Looks (Last Gang)

Neil Gaiman: Where's Neil When You Need Him? (Dancing Ferret) – A bunch of (mostly) artists I’ve never heard of write songs inspired by Neil Gaiman’s work.

Psalm One: The Death Of Frequent Flyer (Rhymesayers) – Female rapper from Chicago.

Scott H. Biram: Graveyard Shift (Bloodshot)

Various Artists: 80s Metal Tribute to Van Halen (Cleopatra) – A bunch of metal artists like Jani Lane, Mark Slaughter and Stephen Pearcy cover vintage Van Halen. Odd.

Various Artists: You, Me and Dupree (soundtrack) (Lakeshore) – “Funky Cold Medina,” “Bust a Move” and local dudes, the 88. How’d they sneak on there?

That Golden Smog is so freakin' good I can hardly stand it!

I thought the Golden Smog is less accessible than their previous stuff. A heavy 70s influence is more than obvious and Tweedy is only featured on a couple of the tracks. If you didn't know it was a Smog CD, you might think it's just new Jayhawks record.

To say that it sounds like a Jayhawks cd is a bit obvious don't ya think? As for there earlier stuff, like what that last cd put out like 10 yrs. ago?
I do not remember liking that at all.
But, I do LOVE the Jayhawks.

Sorry about the empty case Duke but it is not like YOU bought or anything.
