Monday Night Music Options

You've gotta kinda feel sorry for touring musicians in LA on Monday nights. There's so much free entertainment.

Monday 8/14/06
Death Cab For Cutie / Spoon / Mates of State @ Greek ($50) - I've seen DCFC several times but I haven't heard their last few records. I love Spoon's records, but they're pretty boring live. And what's up with all the endorsements? I remember when they were on a major label and seemed unwilling to do anything to promote their music. I've also seen Mates of State. There are still decent tickets, but they’re expensive.

The Little Ones / The Watson Twins / The Bird and the Bee @ Spaceland (Free) – The Little Ones EP is really good and they sound really good live. They’re not the best dancers on the planet, but that really shouldn’t matter. The Watson Twins perform as Jenny Lewis’ backup singers and also have a self-released EP of their own. I’ve heard it’s really good, but haven’t picked it up yet. The Bird and the Bee is Greg Kurstin and Inara George.

Black Heart Procession / Devics / Castanets @ Knitting Factory ($15) – Three solid bands. San Diego’s Black Heart Procession is either brooding or boring - you make the call. Devics are a local band on Filter’s label. Castanets are part of the Sufjan Stevens’ crowd. Download Castanets' "All That I Know"

Anavan @ Il Corral – They’re on the GSL label.

Innaway / The Pandas @ Safari Sam’s (Free)

Antarcticans @ Silverlake Lounge (Free) – Mogwai-esque.

Kind Hearts & Coronets / Brothers and Sisters @ the Echo (Free)
