Highlights from Tonight's Live Music Calendar Monday 9/17/07

The Happy Hollows Play the Echo Tonight

I made it out for Built to Spill on Friday. Despite the fact that they tune between every song and have very little stage presence, they're still a very engaging live band. I think it's because they have so many good songs and such a great guitar sound. I wasn't looking forward to it all that much, but ended up enjoying it quite a bit.
Tonight's Pick (9/17/07):
The Happy Hollows / Le Switch / Rademacher / The May Fire @ the Echo (Free) – The Happy Hollows are opening for the Silversun Pickups when they play the Wiltern on October 20th. Their Monday night residency has apparently been packing them in. I think tonight’s the first one I’m going to check out. The Aquarium Drunkard recently announced that his label, Autumn Tone, will be putting out Le Switch’s next EP. It can’t come soon enough for me. Rademacher are Fresno band, that I’ve been meaning to check out forever.
Also Recommended:

Peter Bjorn & John / The Clientele @ Wiltern ($27) – I still think PB&J’s second and third albums are great. But going from the Roxy to the Wiltern in less than a year seems like too much of a jump (especially for $27 a ticket). The Clientele make good albums, but they’re pretty boring live.

Gram Rabbit / Abby Travis / Gwendolyn @ Spaceland (Free) – Gram Rabbit continues their residency.

Matt & Kim / XBXRX / Abe Vigoda @ Troubadour ($10) – Matt & Kim are a manic, keyboard-driven, Brooklyn duo who are pretty fun to see if you’re in the mood for a manic, keyboard-driven, Brooklyn duo.
Maybe you prefer:

The Sounds / Under the Influence of Giants @ Santa Monica Civic Auditorium ($25) –The second (best) Swedish band playing in LA tonight. The only thing worse than the lead singer of the Sounds appearance on that terrible song on the Snakes On a Plane soundtrack (and in the end credits) is the fact that they put New York City scenesters on the cover of their album instead of themselves. As many critics have pointed out, if you like Missing Persons, then you might like the Sounds.

The Valley Arena / Satisfaction / Repeater @ Silverlake Lounge (Free)

The Donnas / The Randies @ Viper Room ($10) – Female fronted, melodic, punk-pop.
