Highlights from Wednesday's Live Calendar 9/5/07

Railbenders Play Safari Sam's Tonight

There's about eight places I wouldn't mind being tonight.....
Tivo Alert: Rilo Kiley on Jimmy Kimmel; Dinosaur Jr. on Conan O’Brien
Wednesday Night's Picks:

Railbenders @ Safari Sam’s ($5) – These guys really surprised me at Stagecoach this year. They’re super tight cow-punks from Denver who play much faster in person than their Myspace page would lead you to believe. This is probably the bargain of the night.

Stevie Wonder @ Greek Theatre (Sold Out) – The guy’s a living legend and doesn’t tour that often. I’m starting to kick myself that I didn’t get tickets. If you’re looking for an entry point into his career, pick up Innervisions or Songs in the Key of Life. Pretty much anything from the 1970s is really good.

Lucinda Williams @ El Rey ($35) – The first night of her five night stand. Tonight she performs her excellent album from 2003, World Without Tears, in its entirety. I’m going on Saturday for Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, but that show’s already sold out.

Foreign Born / Gran Ronde / A Shoreline Dream @ the Roxy ($10) – Another solid lineup for Filter’s Revenge of the Sunset Strip. Foreign Born recently released their debut album on Dim Mak. Still haven’t heard it, but it’s getting solid reviews.

Download Foreign Born’s “In the Shape” and “Union Hall

Ben Kweller @ the Echo ($20) – The first of his three night stand at the Echo. Tonight he performs fan favorite, Sha Sha, in its entirety

Nico Stai / Saint Motel / Hecuba / Everest @ Troubadour ($10) – These Everest guys are good. They go on at 8:00PM.

Buddy / Pink Mochi @ Bordello ($8) – Buddy’s a talented local singer-songwriter who is doing a Wednesday night residency all month at Bordello.
Other Options:

Low End Theory Club: Tender Buttons / HEALTH @ Airliner ($5) – More experimental, noisier bands.

Club NME: Kamera @ Spaceland ($8) – Swedish band on Nettwerk. They describe themselves as a cross between the Cure and Pet Shop Boys.

Monolators / Kissing Cousins @ Silverlake Lounge ($7)
