How David Yow Show You That He Loves You

Tivo Alert: Spoon on the Tonight Show
Tuesday's Pick:

Qui / Lozen @ the Echo ($12) – This is Qui’s record release party. Their new album came out today on Ipecac (Mike Patton’s label). Since adding David Yow (Jesus Lizard, Scratch Acid) on vocals, they’re getting well deserved national attention. They’ve always been a powerful drum/guitar duo, but the addition of Yow brings a charismatic frontman. The music’s abrasive and in-your-face. Pretty much the antithesis of the type of thing Steve Jobs wants you to download on your iTouch when you hear it playing at the local Starbucks. Sabertooth Tiger canceled.
Also Worth Checking Out:

Maserati / El Ten Eleven @ Silverlake Lounge ($8) – Maserati’s a powerful instrumental rock band on the Temporary Residence label. They’re rooted in math rock, but the promo materials bring up “psychedelic arena rock” which I’m willing to accept. If you like bands like Mono who lock into grooves and don’t screw around with lyrics, then you’ll want to see these guys.
Download “The World Outside

Bob Log III @ Spaceland – Popular one man lo-fi blues band from Tucson. He was in Doo Rag, but now simultaneously plays guitar and drums while singing and wearing a motorcycle helmet. And if that’s not enough, he’s known for asking women to sit on his knees while all this is going on.

Spoon / Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears @ Henry Fonda (Sold Out) – Night two of three.
Don't think I'd go to these, but a lot of people will:

Art Brut / Whispertown 2000 @ Keyclub ($15) – Art Brut is a hipster-approved British band with humorous lyrics and upbeat songs. The talk-singing of the lead singer puts me off, but I know some people really like them.

Acid Mother’s Guru Guru / The Phantom Family Halo @ Troubadour ($15) – For the psychedelic rock fans. Acid Mother’s Guru Guru is a collaboroation between Acid Mother’s Temple and Guru Guru. The Phantom Family Halo features members of Slint, For Carnation, etc.
Download TPFH’s “Black River” and “Lady Blue

Brandi Carlile / A Fine Frenzy @ House of Blues ($18)

A.i. @ the Roxy ($10)

Yo Majesty / Von Iva @ Echoplex ($12)

Hot Hot Heat @ Cinespace – This is free if you buy the album at Best Buy, but that doesn’t guarantee you entrance. Starts around 8:00PM.
