Friday Night Music Options 3/16/07

That's not how you spell odyssey. No not even in England.
Friday's Pick:
The Zombies / Ian Hunter @ Henry Fonda ($45) – The last time I did a top 10 albums of all time list (on 10/31/05) the Zombies’ Odessey and Oracle was #8 on the list (I could only put one album per artist on the list, otherwise it probably would have been a little lower). It always puts a smile on my face when I hear it. Of course that record came out in 1968, so is it really worth seeing them in 2007? I’ve seen them twice. The first time I was elated to hear so many of my favorite songs performed live. The second time wasn’t as good. Seeing old dudes pump their fists in the air to Argent’s “Hold Your Head Up” and “God Gave Rock ‘n’ Roll To You” didn’t seem quite as cool. By all means, go see them if you haven’t caught them before and if you have, then you already know what you’re getting yourself into. Ian Hunter was the lead singer of Mott the Hoople.
Other shows:
Clipse @ El Rey ($24) – For the hip-hop fans.
The Youngs @ Abbot’s Habit in Venice (Free) – Recent transplants to LA.
Aceyalone @ House of Blues Sunset ($12) – For the underground hip-hop fans.

My rant over at the anti Peanut Butter and Jelly blog....Music actually is not subjective at all. It is really objective, and if you want to really get right down to it, we can agree on things that really suck. We're talking about "pop" music right? So ask yourself what that means. There is a general "agreement" as to what "pop" music is right? Therefore there is an "understanding" and agreement as to what determines how we listen to it thus what is good to hear. I actually believe that there are WAY too many "bands" out there. I also believe that there should be a moratorium on guitar sales for a few years at least. There should even be a "cooling off" period for any guitar purchase made. A back ground check would also help. Just because you "like" music, doesn't mean you should "make" music. Other people have to listen to it and "agree" that it’s good. I actually think that about 99% of music out there sucks so bad, that our level of "agreement" as to what is good has been lowered quite significantly over the years. Thus creating the "subjective ness" of what is "good" music. When actually its really horrible music but nobody can really tell the differnce as to what is good and bad becuase really... its all bad.
Thank you. Good day.

had i read this blog before and actually had $45 I probably would have gone and seen the zombies. i wish you could start doing a 'upcoming shows thing' on your blog for stuff that's coming up in advance. also some daily Oasis updates would be good too. oh also that guy who did the long rant earlier used too many "quotes" to express himself. which leads me to believe that "he's a fruit" who makes "quote signs with his hands" in real life when he "talks" to "people".
