Pretty weak release slate this week. The next big date is April 10th. If you’re going to the record store this week, and still don’t have the new Shins, Arcade Fire, Broken West, Minor Canon, Menomena, Dr. Dog, and Besnard Lakes give them a listen.
Top Five Most Interesting New Relases:
The Fall: Post-TLC Reformation (Narnack) – The British press love it and Pitchfork hates it. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
Kate Havnevik: Melankton (Republic/Universal) – She’s going out on tour with Air. Download “Unlike Me”
Kaiser Chiefs: Yours Truly Angry Mob (Universal) – If you liked the first one you might like it. I’m not feeling it. Sylus panned it, Pitchfork half panned it and Mojo, Uncut and Q like it. See them at Coachella on 4/29.
Klaxons: Myth of the Near Future (Geffen) – Hyped British dance rock band. Mojo, EW and NME recommend it and Rolling Stone does not. See them at Coachella on 4/29.
Let’s Go Sailing: Chaos in Order (GR2 Classics) – This one came out locally last year and it placed high on my top 10 list for local artists. Hot on the tail of a Morning Becomes Eclectic appearance and a couple of songs on Grey’s Anatomy, it’s been re-released with national distribution.
Other Noteworthy New Releases:
Mika: Life in Cartoon Motion (Casablanca) – This year’s Scissor Sisters? All over TV right now and they just played a bunch of SXSW shows and sold out the Troubadour. See them at Coachella on 4/29.
Mims: Music Is My Saviour (Capitol) – Mainstream hip-hop
Redman: Red Gone Wild (Def Jam)
Reissues:
The Byrds: Sweetheart of the Rodeo (Sundazed) – The classic country rock album and the only Byrds album with Gram Parsons. Reissued on vinyl.
