Dr. Dog Plays the Troubadour Tonight

TV Alert: The Shins on Conan O’Brien; Peter, Bjorn and John on Last Call with Carson Daly
Tonight's Pick:
Dr. Dog / Bobby Bare Jr. @ Troubdour ($12) – I’ve really only gotten into Dr. Dog in the last two weeks. I’ve always heard a lot of musicians I respect praise them, but I’d never heard their stuff (admittedly, Pitchfork’s hatred for the band didn’t help). Once again, Pitchfork is way wrong. These guys are damn good. If you’re into 1970s-era McCartney and classic pop-rock songwriting, give these guys a listen. Their new album, We All Belong came out on 2/27 on Park the Van Records and there are six or seven stellar tracks on it. It reminds me a little of Kelley Stoltz, who put out one my favorite albums last year. They appeared on Conan on Monday night. They seemed a little nervous, but seem like they’d be a lot of fun to see live. Download “Ain’t It Strange” and “Worst Trip
Also Recommended:
El Perro del Mar / The One AM Radio @ Hotel Café ($15) – Stan left a comment on yesterday’s blog about El Perro del Mar’s ExPlx show last night. Apparently Assbring brought it. The One Am Radio just put out a new record on Dangerbird Records. It’s good. Way mellow.
Chief Cornfoot's Comedy Hour @ Sea Level (Free) 8:00PM - Maria Bamford and others perform comedy.
Club Nights:
Club NME: Fujiya and Miyagi @ Spaceland – British dudes who love krautrock and are beloved by Pitchfork.
Dub Club: The Abyssinians @ the Echo ($15) – For the dub/reggae fans.
Low End Theory Club: Prefuse 73 / Bunny Rabbit @ Airliner Club ($8) – For the hip-hop fans. Bunny Rabbit’s producer is Black Cracker.
