Happy Birthday to the late Arthur Lee of Love. He would have been 62 today. Thank you for the all the amazing music. We miss you.
Tonight's Pick:
Club NME: The Young Knives / Dandi Wind @ Spaceland ($8) – Evidently their immigration problems continued, and they didn’t play their Safari Sam’s show last night. I got an email today that assures me they’re on a plane and they’ll be in town for this show tonight. I haven’t heard their record yet, but it has already gotten four star reviews from Mojo, NME, Q and Uncut. If you’re still kicking yourself for missing the Arctic Monkeys last year, you’ll probably want to show up tonight.
Also recommended:
Qui / Big Business @ All Star Lanes in Eagle Rock ($5) – A couple of the best local noise/metal/punk rock bands. David Yow’s (Jesus Lizard) now a permanent member of Qui. Big Business is celebrating the release of their new album (out yesterday) on Hydra Head records.
Maybe you prefer:
Finnish Moosic Night: KTU / 22-Pistepirkko / Lodger / Disco Ensemble @ Knitting Factory ($15) – These four Finnish bands are doing a little mini-tour before SXSW. KTU is an accordion driven band with two guys from King Crimson. David Fricke of Rolling Stone is a fan. Disco Ensemble’s a post-hardcore band, Lodger is rock ‘n’ roll and 22-Pistepirkko more poppy.
Bright Eyes / Vetiver / Whispertown 2000 @ El Rey (Sold Out)
