Thursday Night Music 11-9-06
I drove out to Sierra Madre last night and saw the Hubcaps do lots of great covers (several LA musicians made the same trek). Tons of Neil Young, the Who, Stones, Pink Floyd (Syd-era), Love, Kinks, etc. Lots of fun.
Telescopes / Fuxa @ Silverlake Lounge ($12) – The Telescopes are a British band that started out as shoegazer/Spacemen 3 type band, but evolved into a more melodic dream pop band. This is their first US tour ever. Rev-Ola has reissued some of their hard to find CDs. Fuxa plays atmospheric music that all the shoegazer fans should appreciate.
Noel Gallagher @ Wadsworth Theatre (N/A) – Did you win tickets on Myspace or through Indie 103.1? If you have an extra and want to invite my friend John, he will love you forever (and probably trade you a couple of “Thee Motorcar is Bullshit” t-shirts. [UPDATE - John got a ticket!]
Joseph Arthur / Annie Stela @ Troubadour ($15) – Back in town again. There's aMichael Stipe produced New Orleans documentary floating around out there that was named after one of his songs.
Xiu Xiu @ the Echo ($10) – Some say challenging, I usually just say headache rock. His lyrics remind me of the poetry that sexually confused girl in your high school honors English class would write. Just kidding. I know they have a lot of fans really passionate about them. Download “I Broke Up”
Minus the Bear @ El Rey ($14) – Don’t ask them about their song titles. I’m warning you. Just don’t. Download “Hooray”
Miranda Lee Richards @ Hotel Café
Pet Shop Boys @ Wiltern ($65) – I imagine a lot of guys in leather trousers.
Lovedrug / Brandston @ Spaceland ($10) – Emo kids. Spaceland is 21+.
