I had a great time at Spaceland on Monday. If you haven't seen the Deadly Syndrome yet, I highly recommend checking them out. They've got good songs and loads of energy. It's always a pretty diverse audience at Spaceland on Monday night, and they definitely converted some new fans. I've seen blog-approved bands like Birdmonster and Tapes'n Tapes and these guys are way more interesting. Let's Go Sailing played a strong set as well. As usual, Shana has assembled a really good band and she writes interesting songs. There's still two more chances to see her for free on Monday nights.
Tonight's Pick:
NME Night: Airborne Toxic Event / Devastations / The Drones @ Spaceland ($10) – I’m going to try to make it out to this show tonight. The Airborne Toxic Event is a new local band that’s already playing some high profile gigs and getting some good mentions. Go listen at Myspace. Australia’s Devastations are getting some nice reviews from Uncut and P’fork. Most can’t resist comparing the lead singer to Nick Cave and telling you how much Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs loves them. Download Devastations’ “Sex and Mayhem” and “Coal” The Drones are another Australian band. who the NME likes (8/10) and co Download “I Don’t Ever Want to Change”
