Saturday Night's Pick:
The Sword / Trivium @ Avalon ($15) – For the metal fans. I’ve already seen Austin’s the Sword a coupla times this year, and that’s probably enough. But if you like retro metal and haven’t seen them, check it out. All the touring has made them extremely tight. They’re from the Ozzy/Sabbath school. Their album’s in contention for my top 20 this year. According to a friend Trivium sounds like a wussified version of early Metallica. The Sword’s “Winter’s Wolves”
Also Playing:
Danava / Saviours @ Safari Sam’s ($10) – For the slightly more arty (but still heavy) metal fans. Danava are the Sword’s labelmates. Maybe hit that show first then jump over to Sam’s where the parking’s free and the drinks are much cheaper. Here’s a cool description from the Stranger: “Had David Bowie seduced Black Sabbath and the coupling been consummated in a waterbed of liquid LSD, the music would sound as epic as Danava's two demo songs." Saviors sound heavy too.
ESG /Mika Miko @ the Echo ($25) – This show’s been moved about 37 times so make sure you go to the right place. Old school punk/rap/disco group.
Forward Russia / Scanners @ Spaceland ($12) – I got both of these discs and never made it all the way through either one. If you like the post-punk dance bands, there might be something there that I missed.
Airborne Toxic Event @ the Cocaine (366 E. 2nd Street) – New local band that’s heading out to CMJ next week. Check out Radio Free Silver Lake for a band interview.

The Cramps / The Groovie Ghoulies @ House of Blues ($25) – They put on a show.
The Wau Wau Sisters @ Little Pedro’s – According to their website, Captured by Robots cancelled this show.
