I'd like to also suggest USC's radio station: KSCR . The students there have varied tastes, and they genuinely do try to bring their breadth of musical knowledge to bear on the listener. I say this not only as a former student there, but as someone who listens to their shows frequently and rather enjoy them. They have a high quality internet feed too (128-bit and 64-bit). LR still takes it for me though.
just to clarify - these aren't necessarily my picks, just LA based bands/businesses that got nominated.
