Weekend Music Options 11/17/07 - 11/18/07

No Age Play the Smell Sunday (photo from their Myspace page)

Saturday 11/17/07:

M. Ward / Foreign Born @ Cal State LA – M. Ward’s a great guitar player.

The Warlocks / Darker My Love / The Moon Upstairs @ Troubadour ($14) – The Warlocks have a new album out on Tee Pee. Darker My Love’s label (Dangerbird) is giving their entire album away for free on their website. They’re a powerful live band. The Moon Upstairs’ record will be on my top 10 local list this year. Very George Harrison.

Demons / Smegma @ the Echo ($5) – Early show at 5:00PM

Fear / The Gears @ Safari Sam’s ($20) – Lots of old hippie and old punk shows this weekend.

Sunday 11/18/07:

Rademacher / Earlimart (Aaron and Ariana only) / Tigers Can Bite You @ Spaceland (Free) – Rademacher’s giving away two more of the songs from their upcoming album at Aquarium Drunkard today. Seeing all these bands for free is tough to beat.

No Age / Mika Miko / Jay Reatard / The Strange Boys @ the Smell ($8) – This will get full. Earlier this week I linked to the New Yorker article on No Age.

No Go Know / Karin Tatoyan @ All Star Lanes in Eagle Rock ($5 includes shoe rental)

Nickel Creek @ House of Blues ($25)

Grande Ole Echo: Old Californio / Mike Stinson / I See Hawks in LA @ the Echo (Free) – 5:00– 9:00PM – This show will be taped for a film on the LA Country Scene. These are three of the best bands in the scene.
