Thursday Night Concert Picks 10/5/06

Numerous good reasons to go out tonight. Whether you're on the east side, downtown, in Hollywood or on the Strip.

Tonight's Pick
Riverboat Gamblers @ Key Club ($12) - Punk rock from Denton, TX. The lead singer of the Riverboat Gamblers is a great front man. He's all over the place and may even get in your face. I saw them a few times when I lived in Texas and they always put on a fantastic show. Spin Magazine recently named them the 15th best live band in the world ahead of two of my favorites: the Flaming Lips and My Morning Jacket. You won't ever understand the band until you see them live. They're also playing Alex's Bar in Long Beach tomorrow night. If you're like me and you haven't seen a good show in a while, this might be the remedy.

Also appearing:
Roger Waters performs Dark Side of the Moon @ Hollywood Bowl ($36-260) - You can still get $260 tickets. It better be a pretty damn good show for $260. I mean really, really good. Like way better than any show in the world. I mean I like Pink Floyd and all, but $260 is a helluva lot of money. Also on Friday and Sunday.

Man Man / Tsk Tsk / Wires on Fire @ Spaceland ($10) - Don't know much about Man Man, but a lot of music snobs seem to dig them. They're on the experimental side of indie music.

The Minor Canon /Briertone @ Little Pedro’s ($5) – The Rock Insider blog presents this night of local favorites. Going downtown is always a nice change of pace. If you haven't been to Little Pedro's it's a cool spot to check out a show.

Tigers Can Bite You / Airborne Toxic Event / Land of Ill Earthquakes @ the Echo ($5) – Somebody’s been reading their Don Delillo. I still haven't seen Dave Woody's (Fiver) new band, Tigers Can Bite You. I'm hearing good things. This night is presented by Sea Level Records and LA Alternative.

Jet @ Henry Fonda (Sold Out) - I'm sure you guys saw the Pitchfork review this week. It almost makes me wanna like Jet. Almost. They're laughing all the way to the bank.
